Playing Card Logo Back-story

For the Class of 1969, this is The Year of the Card!  In a nod to our original beer-jacket design, AG Chair Andy Steele has designated our playing-card logo to be this year's "calling card" for our Annual Giving Effort.

Many of our classmates may have forgotten the story of this logo.  It was designed by Dave Johnson with help from Dave Hutchison, who drew the girl and tiger.  

According to Hutch, "the whole concept probably evolved during one of the regular 5 A:M. ping pong matches that Dave and I used to have in the basement of the architecture building after pulling all-nighters working on some project.  I believe that we split the prize and that Dave (being a long range thinker) took the beer jacket and I went for the immediate gratification of the case of beer. At any rate, I thought then (and still do) that Dave's design concept was brilliant, although being the class of '69 had its obvious advantages and influences on the ultimate design."

Both Daves recall winning in a landslide!
