Dear
Classmates,
Spring
greetings from Tigertown. The big
news here has been the outstanding run of the women’s basketball team. They went undefeated through the
regular season and finished 30-0, the best Ivy record ever, men’s or women’s,
and they won an NCAA tournament game for the first time, before falling to the
number one seed in their region.
Their NCAA appearances in College Park, MD were attended by President
Obama (Michelle’s niece is on the team) and Supreme Court Justices Sotomayor
’76 and Kagan ’81.
I’m
writing to let you know about upcoming class events, but two in particular:
-Our
46th reunion will take place on May 28-31. It is described on this 46th Reunions Info Page. Reunion Chair
Dan Harman has put together a great program starting with a joint barbecue with
the Classes of ‘68 and ‘71 in
Hamilton Courtyard in the midst of the ‘70’s 45th. Registering before May 6 will enable
you to attend at a substantial discount.
Off-year Reunions are more low-key, so they are a great way to get into
the Reunions spirit in anticipation of our 50th, now only four years
hence.
-Thanks
to Clay and Pinky McEldowney, the Class will hold our 8th
off-campus
mini-reunion in Williamsburg, VA on October 8-11. A brief description of
that event can be found here. Many of you may have made the journey
to the Williamsburg area with your children years ago, but there have
been
considerable enhancements to the experience since then. Please consider
joining us. The above link is just a preliminary summary.
Details, as they develop, will be posted on the website.
While
we can still accommodate paper, we would like to handle most of the
registration and payment arrangements for both of these events on line through
our website overseen by our webmaster extraordinaire, Jeff Kaplan. To date, well over 400 classmates have
established log-ins to take advantage of the site capabilities. If you’re not one of them, just click
on "First-time sign up” in the login box.
If you need help, click here. Jeff can also help if needed. Contact Jeff at webmaster@princeton1969.org.
I
thought I should also give all of you an early idea of what we have coming up
later in the year. I know many of
us are celebrating 50th high school reunions this year and, of
course, this fall it will be 50 years since we first set foot on Princeton’s
campus as students. The past 10
years or so, the University has held a "Pre-rade” for the incoming freshman
class-- a P-rade like procession attended by upper classmen and alumni, and as
this year will mark the debut of our grandchild class, the Class of 2019, I
hope some of us can attend. More to come later, but the date is September 13.
The
class of 1968 has invited us again to their annual fall seminar. This year the theme will be
the Environment, suggested by our own Jay Bestmann. The seminar will occur on October 2 and 3 here in Princeton.
The number of participants will be
limited so, if you’re interested, please follow the website for details.
We
also will have our annual class meeting and dinner in Princeton on November 14—the
date of the Yale football game.
This year we plan to celebrate our classmate Randy Shepard’s attendance
at 50 consecutive contests, a streak that may well be unmatched—certainly by
any of us. More details in
my annual fall letter.
I
must close by reminding those of you who haven’t paid your class dues yet to click here and do so. The
dues help keep the Class fiscally sound, enabling us to front costs for events like
those described in this letter. The class is on a July-June fiscal year. You can easily check whether you’ve
paid dues for this fiscal year by looking at the "my payment history” feature on the
website (not that any of us would ever forget what we did a few months ago).
Hope
to see many of you at one event or another during 2015.
All
the best, Rick |
