Harvard Weekend Events

October 22, 2016

So far just a couple of days have hinted at fall but in a few weeks it will be in its full glory in Princeton.  Join us for the perfect celebration of the season with Harvard Weekend on Saturday, October 22.

We’ll start off with a Class Steering Committee Meeting in Frist 228 at 9:30am, the same classroom we used last year.  All classmates are invited.

After the meeting, we’ll move on to the Class tailgate held as usual on the lawn behind Ivy Club commencing at 11am.  Please bring something to share.  The football game will start at 1pm.

We will gather for our traditional reception and dinner at 5:30pm in the Oakes Lounge of Whig Hall (again same place as last year).

Then the real fun begins.  Are you sick of the level of political discourse in our great nation?  Then harken back with our dinner speaker, Prof. Denis Feeney, to an age when heroes owned the political stage and insults were resolved by single combat to the death.   Prof. Feeney will speak about Homer and the original oral performances of his songs that became the Iliad and the Odyssey.   He is the Giger Professor of Latin and Professor of Classics who most recently served as Chair of Princeton’s Council for the Humanities, where he helped administer the David A. Gardner '69 Magic Project Grants, established by our honorary classmate Lynn Shostack.  He has also led some recent Princeton Journeys excursions to Rome and other points in the Mediterranean.  Denis combines awesome erudition with an engaging personality that makes him one of the most popular professors on campus, and it is always a treat to hear what he has to say.

The cost is $65 per person if you sign up by Oct. 17.  After that, it’s $75 and walk-ups will be charged $80, so sign up soon.  You can sign up for the dinner by clicking the Register Now button above.  Don't miss it!
