Princeton Club of Chicago honors Marion Sleet
Classmate Sleet received "Distinguished Service to the Community" Award
The Princeton Club of Chicago presented Marion Sleet '69 with its "Distinguished Service to the Community" award at its Annual Dinner on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Pictured at right at the event are Marion with '69 Chicago Region VP Bruce Rosenberg, hoding a photo taken at the Martin Luther King rally in Palmer Square shortly after King's death.
Marion has devoted his entire professional career to the development and
delivery of community based services to Chicago’s most vulnerable citizens. His
primary focus has been programs to prevent, treat and support recovery from
mental health and substance abuse problems. He is currently Chief Operating
Officer of Ada S. McKinley Community Services, Inc. He has also served in a
variety of community volunteer leadership positions, including president of the
Community Behavioral Healthcare Association of Illinois and executive committee
member of the South Side Branch of the NAACP. Just as he enjoyed his years with
the Princeton University Glee Club, he has enjoyed singing with a number of
choirs, most notably, the Knights of Music Male Chorus.
Marion
lives in the Chatham community and has been married for over 42 years to his
wife, Camille. They have two adult sons, Michael, a surgeon who lives in
Pennsylvania with his wife and daughter, and Brian, an Illinois attorney who is
the Chief of Staff to the Alderman of the Sixth Ward. Marion graduated from
Princeton with a degree in Sociology and holds a Master of Arts degree from the
University of Chicago, also in Sociology.
Marion’s resonant singing voice will also grace the ’69 Memorial Service at our 45th reunion (yet another reason to be there).
