Class Dinner at Homecoming, 2022: October 29, 2022
We have scheduled a Class Dinner and other festivities for the October 29th Homecoming, when the football team and a few other teams play Cornell. You can sign up by clicking the Register Now button.
While the University is encouraging alumni to attend the Homecoming Weekend events, once again the University due to COVID concerns has suspended its rental of spaces on campus to alumni groups that weekend, making it difficult to locate a space on campus suitable for a Class Meeting or a Class Tailgate. In addition, there is significant construction occurring along Ivy Lane (associated with the new 4-building complex that will house the Environmental Studies program and the School of Engineering and Applied Science), which has caused Ivy Club to decline our request to use the space behind the Ivy Club that we have used for many years for the Class Tailgate. Therefore, we have decided to revise our schedule for Homecoming significantly.
Class Meeting:
First, we are postponing our Class Meeting until after Homecoming, and will once again hold our Class Meeting online, instead of doing so “in person” at Homecoming as we had hoped. We are now proposing to convene that meeting on Friday, November 18th at 4:00 PM (ET). All of the details on how to join the rescheduled Class Meeting appear below at the end of this message.
Tailgate:
Second, we have decided not to organize a Class of ‘69 Tailgate. Rather, we will attempt to congregate as part of the Alumni Tiger Tailgate which is being held at the Jadwin Gym Lobby and Plaza adjacent thereto (just east of the Princeton Stadium). That Tailgate opens at 11:00 AM, and runs until the football game commences at 1:00 PM. Complimentary lunch, beverages, and orange and black giveaways. Limited seating will be available. As in the past, the Band will be there to entertain us all with some fight songs, and to lead us off to the game. The Alumni Association is asking that each of us register for that event by October 21st at: https://alumni.princeton.edu/events/alumni-tiger-tailgate.
Football Game:
Football vs Cornell The game itself is currently scheduled to be televised on ESPN+ this year, so we are assuming it will end around 4:30 PM. Tickets for the game itself can be purchased at: https://tickets.princeton.edu/athletics/Online/.
Cocktails/Dinner:
Finally, we have arranged for cocktails and dinner at the Springdale Golf Club (located just southeast of Forbes College off Alexander Road at 1895 Clubhouse Drive) in the evening after the game. As we had originally assumed that Homecoming was going to occur the following week when Dartmouth is scheduled to come to TigerTown, we had the Club reserved for the wrong weekend, and so, thanks to the graciousness of the Class of ’65 (which had the Club reserved for what turned out to be the right weekend), we will be convening jointly with the Class of ’65 for cocktails and dinner. We are planning to convene for cocktails at approximately 4:30 PM and to commence dinner around 6:00 PM. The dinner will be an Italian buffet. We have also arranged for a performance by The Footnotes between cocktails and dinner. We are also planning to have both the cocktails and the dinner outdoors, on a covered patio with outdoor heaters. As the weather likely will be in the 50s during dinner, you should dress appropriately for such temperatures, but we are hopeful that the heaters will provide more than adequate respite. There is a possibility that you will need to enter the Club premises from time to time, in order to use the restroom facilities or to go to the bar, so you may wish to bring a mask, despite the fact that we will be outdoors generally
The cost of the event will be as follows: Early-bird sign-ups (deadline Wednesday, October 21st) are $80 per person, sign-ups from October 22nd through Tuesday, October 25th are $90 per person, and both sign-ups and walk-ups thereafter will be charged $100 per person (N.B., the ability to handle walk-ins will be extremely limited). The charge includes a limited open bar (beer and wine only), and service charges/taxes. Please Log-In to our website, then click the big "Register Now" button below for the dinner. COVID Matters
In order to reduce concerns about COVID, both Classes are requiring that those who wish to attend have been vaccinated and boosted (but not necessarily boosted with the bivalent vaccines that only recently became available). At the present time, the State of New Jersey is not requiring masks, whether indoors or outdoors, but is recommending that masks be worn whenever one has symptoms of COVID-19, or has tested positive, or was recently exposed to someone with COVID-19, or lives in a county with elevated or "high" COVID community levels. While Mercer County has a “low” community level, only you know whether you live in a community with an elevated or “high” community level. In any event, if you determine that any of the foregoing contingencies apply to you, we would ask that you follow that recommendation by the State. You also will be asked on the sign-up page to confirm that you and your guest(s) will have been vaccinated and boosted by no later than October 15th (two weeks before the event).
